Survey: Senator Carstairs Seeks Input for Next Report on Palliative Care

It has been nearly 5 years since Senator Sharon Carstairs tabled "Still Not There. Quality End-of-Life Care: A Progress Report" in the Senate in the spring of 2005. She has begun laying the groundwork to produce a new report in late spring or early summer of 2010. As part of her efforts, Senator Carstairs has created a survey to canvas perspectives from the community, including patients, caregivers and health care providers.

This survey is intended to gather invaluable insight into the current state of palliative and end-of-life care in Canada. Together with other outreach and research activities, the information and shared experiences collected will assist Senator Carstairs in the preparation of a completely new report on palliative and end-of-life care.

The deadline for responses is Monday February 15th, 2010.

Coming soon: Video library

The Canadian Virtual Hospice has made a huge leap forward in developing a video library to provide access to the latest information and thinking in palliative and end of life care. Sixteen leaders in palliative care, including Joanne Lynn from The Centre to Improve Care of the Dying in Washington D.C., Larry Librach from the Temmy Latner Centre, Carrie Bourassa from First Nations University and Hal Siden from Canuck Place were interviewed on topics ranging from the state of the health care system to spirituality to pediatric palliative care. A series of caregiving videos is also in the works. Expect to see clips in the new year.
